Namasté: Growth Yoga studios in Germany comes to halt
Amsterdam, 24 May 2022 – From Bikram to Vinyasa: yoga is very popular in Germany. The latest statistics from data specialist BoldData show that the number of yoga studios has grown by 72% over the last 10 years. From 1,912 schools in 2011 to 3,283 in 2021. However, the growth seems to have come to a halt. In 2021, the number of yoga studios only grew by 10. Time for data specialist BoldData to roll out the numbers.
Yoga hype over?
Yoga studios have become an integral part of the German street scene. Over the past 10 years, the number of companies has grown by 72%. Especially 2016 was a good year for yoga practitioners in Germany. That year 428 yoga entrepreneurs opened their own yoga school. A growth of 15.7%. 2018 seems to be a tipping point for the popularity of yoga, from this moment the growth slows down. Last year only 10 new studios opened their doors, a growth of 0.3%.
Berlin is the yoga temple
When it comes to yoga, Berlin is the place to be. With 271 locations, Berlin counts the most yoga studios in Germany. Hamburg comes in second with 144 yoga studios. München is also a good place to practice yoga with also 144 yoga schools. These three cities combined give home to 57% of the total amount of yoga schools in Germany.
Germany is EU biggest yoga country
With 3,283 studio’s, Germany counts the most yoga studios of the EU. With a coverage of 30% of all yoga studios in EU. France comes in second with 2,196 yoga studios (20%). The Netherlands completes the top 3 with 2.147 yoga schools (19%).
