Namasté: Growth Yoga studios in France comes to halt
Amsterdam, 23 May 2022 – From Bikram to Vinyasa: yoga is very popular in France. The latest statistics from data specialist BoldData show that the number of yoga studios has grown by 71% over the last 10 years. From 1,287 schools in 2011 to 2,195 in 2021. However, the growth seems to have come to a halt. In 2021, the number of yoga studios only grew by 22. Time for data specialist BoldData to roll out the numbers.
Yoga hype over?
Yoga studios have become an integral part of the French street scene. Over the past 10 years, the number of companies has grown by 71%. Especially 2010 was a good year for yoga practitioners in France. That year 113 yoga entrepreneurs opened their own yoga school. A growth of 9.6%. 2020 seems to be a tipping point for the popularity of yoga, from this moment the growth slows down. Last year only 22 new studios opened their doors, a growth of 1%
Paris is the yoga temple
When it comes to yoga, Paris is the place to be. With 218 locations, Paris counts the most yoga studios in France. Bouches-du-Rhône (Marseille) comes in second with 98 yoga studios. Gironde (Bordeaux) is also a good place to practice yoga with 78 yoga schools. These three departments combined give home to 18% of the total amount of yoga schools in France.
France is EU’s second biggest yoga country
With 2,195 studio’s, France counts the second most yoga studios of the EU with a coverage of 20%. Germany comes in first with 3,283 yoga studios (30%). The Netherlands completes the top 3 with 2.147 yoga schools (19%).
